Digital media writing

For this assignment you are being asked to write four short writing entries, published on the World Wide Web.

Choose four of the ten topics listed below. Write two or three substantial paragraphs about each topic you choose. Your goal is to write an informative background to the topic and to express your informed opinions about the topic. A common way to do this is to have the first paragraph give factual, background information that describes the topic and provides any necessary definitions. The second paragraph (and third, if needed) expresses your opinion about the topic that comes from your research into the topic. You are expected to take a position about the topic and argue for your position.

You will be able to edit your entries as often as you wish up until the deadline date. The deadline date is the date of our last class: January 14, 2016.

While you are required to produce four entries, you will be asked to indicate to the instructor which are your two best ones: only these two will be graded.

Your name will appear with each entry you write. Remember that everything you write can be viewed by anyone who has a computer and an Internet connection. Some of the topics are about people who are currently alive and who therefore may stumble across what you have written about them.

As always, be careful about using other people’s ideas and words. Use quotations as needed. Include URLs as hypertext links as needed. Formal documentation is not required here, but you must be clear about where everything is coming from.

Your entries will be graded on organization, the quality of writing, the depth, accuracy, and concision of the research communicated, and the clarity of the expression of opinion.
