Exam Instructions

Part A (10%)

Proof-read the following two paragraphs. In each paragraph, there are ten errors (for a total of twenty). Identify the grammar and writing mechanics errors by clearly and precisely circling or underlining them and by labelling them (where appropriate). Write your answers on this exam sheet.

You will be given the box with the abbreviations and errors.

Part B (20%)

Choose three of the following four passages. For each passage you choose, write an analysis of the passage, focussing on the passage itself but also discussing its significance within the work from which it comes. Where appropriate, discuss the language, imagery, and symbolism of the quotation.

All four passages are from texts studied in the second half of the course.

Part C (30%)

Choose one of the two poems reproduced below, and answer the questions associated with the poem you choose. Your answers should be substantial, but do not have to be long. Use complete sentences (unless you are running out of time).

Part D (40%)

Choose one of the topics below and write an essay in response. The essay must treat three texts from our course syllabus. Your essay must be an argumentative essay and have a thesis statement. Be sure to answer the question(s) posed by the topic you choose.
