The tool calculates the number of occurrences of grapheme bigrams, counting only the twenty-six letters of the English alphabet and the beginnings and endings of words. The tool also calculates the number of occurrences of each individual letter. The results are presented in tabular form (with an underscore character representing the beginning and ending of words). The tables include a comparison with a base set of data, taken from The Cambridge Encyclopedia of the English Language (1995), which are counts of the graphemes in The Cambridge Encyclopedia.
